Nate Cornejo

Nathan John Cornejo (born September 24, 1979 in Wellington, Kansas) is a former professional baseball player who was a pitcher in the major leagues from -. Nate Cornejo was drafted in the first round of the 1998 MLB draft by the Detroit Tigers, number 34 overall. Prior to being called up the Tigers, Cornejo was considered to be the Tigers best prospect and was among the top 100 prospects in baseball.
In his lone full season with Detroit in 2003, Cornejo finished the season with a 6-17 record. He had the lowest strikeout rate of any starting pitcher in over 20 years, striking out just 2.1 K/9 batters in 194.2 innings.
Cornejo played for the Detroit Tigers until . He then was signed by the Chicago White Sox. Cornejo pitched four games in the minors before officially retiring on July 2, 2006. He is the son of reliever Mardie Cornejo.
